Senegal’s head coach, Aliou Cisse, claims that England’s elimination from the World Cup was due to mistakes made by his team.
After his team’s 3-0 loss against the Three Lions on Sunday in the Round of 16 match of the 2022 World Cup, Cisse lamented his team’s defensive mistakes.
At Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, the Three Lions easily defeated the Lions of Teranga 3-0 thanks to goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka.
Cisse acknowledged the disparity in skill levels between the two sides, but he pledged that his team will develop for the 2026 World Cup finals, which will be jointly hosted by Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Cisse told the media, “A match lasts 90 minutes and in the first half we played very well and generated chances but regrettably we didn’t score.
“We were playing a really good England squad, and we could see it in their physical toughness and challenges. We didn’t perform as well as we could have.
Before the World Cup, Senegal’s defense was a strong point. It’s hard to explain why we have allowed so many goals during this tournament.
The retired defensive midfielder stated, “We’re going to have to take a look at it.
“Due to the caliber of the teams, any mistakes you make at the World Cup cost you.
“We have worked hard for years to be the best in Africa, but tonight we saw the difference against one of the top five teams in the world.
“We have worked so hard to get to this point, and we must keep working to make sure that at the next World Cup we can play better against a team of this caliber.”
