The specifics of Pele, a legendary player in Brazilian football, have been made public.
The 82-year-old lost his battle with colon cancer on Thursday.
Santos Futebol Clube provided all the information on how supporters can bid farewell to one of the game’s all-time greats while players from the past and present and football clubs from all around the world paid their tributes on social media.
Pele had a voice in where the funeral would be held, and the arrangements were made as his health declined during November and December.
What time will the funeral be held?
The general ceremony for Pele will last from January 2, 2023, to the early hours of January 3. The general public will have gate access, and press personnel, notable personalities in politics, and other groups will have separate entrances.
On January 3, a procession through the streets of Santos will be followed by a private burial.
Where will the funeral take place?
Before his public funeral at Vila Belmiro (Santos stadium) begins on January 2, Pele will be embalmed and transported from the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo.
Following the public celebration, there will be a procession through Santos’ streets honoring the icon for exactly 24 hours. He will then be interred privately in the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica with other family members.
Information on the private burial
After being buried in the Memorial Necropole Ecumenica, Pele’s casket will be carried through the streets of Santos. The general public won’t have access to this place.
